What is a herniated disc? It is defined as displacement of disc components beyond the intervertebral disc space. Disk protrusion and herniation can vary widely but can occur as a result of tears of the annulus fibrous, causing acute back or neck pain or radicular pain if there is herniation of the nucleus pulposus.
