Sports Recovery & Maintenance
The body’s ability to recover from frequent workouts is the key to athletic success. Physical training programs put targeted stress on the body’s musculoskeletal system as well as the nervous system. Proper recovery is essential for an athlete to meet the demands of their sport and ensure optimal performance during competition. We offer recovery services, based on personalized physical assessment, which are designed to expedite healing from the trauma your body experiences as a direct result of intense training.
Rehabilitation for Athletes
Importance
Rehabilitation for athletes encompasses various therapeutic interventions designed to promote healing, reduce pain, restore function, improve mobility, and enhance athletic performance. Our clinic utlizes modalities such as Shockwave therapy, Class IV Laser therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, Kinesio taping, functional/corrective exercise training, 1-on-1 stretching, manual therapy, and functional training to improve strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and endurance. At PT & Chiro of Miami, our skilled team of clinicians will help you identify the underlying causes of your injury, and work with you to develop an effective treatment plan to get you back in the game.
1-on-1 Treatment
Our Physical Therapy visits are always 1-1 and direct with either a licensed Physical Therapist or a Physical Therapy Assistant for a full hour of treatment. Our one-on-one physical therapy sessions offer personalized care, our undivided attention, and enhanced support, leading to better outcomes, increased patient satisfaction, and a faster return to function.
The dedicated attention and support provided during our sessions allow patients to feel empowered and encouraged to work hard toward their recovery goals, leading to greater success. Through our personalized physical therapy visits, patients feel more comfortable discussing concerns, asking questions, and actively participating in their treatment plan.
Dry Needling & Acupuncture
For Athletic Recovery
Dry Needling
Dry needling involves the insertion of fine needles into trigger points, which are tight bands of muscle tissue associated with pain, tension, and dysfunction. This insertion elicits a local twitch response, which helps release muscle tension and promote healing. When the trigger points are reached through the skin, the blood flow is able to increase, pain decreases and tissue health improves. This results in quicker healing and improved athletic performance.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves the insertion of needles into specific points along energy channels, known as meridians, to balance the flow of qi (vital energy) and restore health. It is believed to promote the body's natural healing processes, regulate the nervous system, and restore energetic balance. Acupuncture can also be useful for athletes in terms of promoting recovery from workouts and treating injuries, and reducing muscle soreness.
Shockwave Therapy
For Athletic Recovery
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy works by emitting high energy pulses. The shock waves are believed to stimulate angiogenesis (new blood vessels) and neurogenesis (new nerve cells). The microtrauma increases local circulation and enhances breakdown of calcifications (calcium build-up).
Shockwave therapy can be used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions commonly encountered in athletes, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, patellar tendonitis, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, rotator cuff tendonitis, and calcific tendonitis. Some benefits of this intervention for athletes include pain relief, accelerated healing and improved tissue function for a smoother return-to-sport or enhanced athletic performance.
Laser Therapy
For Athletic Recovery
Class IV Laser Therapy
Class IV Laser Therapy stimulates a process called photobiomodulation (PBM). Class IV lasers are able to penetrate deeper and more efficiently than Class III lasers because the laser stimulates the production of ATP. When cells are flooded with ATP, the healing process speeds up. This helps relieve symptoms more quickly and efficiently than other forms of therapy.
By promoting tissue healing, reducing pain and inflammation, and enhancing overall tissue health, Class IV laser therapy can help athletes recover more quickly from sports injuries and return to training and competition sooner. This accelerated recovery process allows athletes to maintain their performance levels and minimize downtime due to injuries.
Kinesio Taping
For Athletic Recovery
Kinesio Taping is a therapeutic taping technique that reduces symptoms of pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin increasing interstitial space and allowing for decreased inflammation in affected areas.
At PT & Chiro of Miami, our practitioners are skilled in Kinesio Taping and can utilize this method to help patients, especially athletes, with the following:
- Help with motion and reduce pain and spasm
- Improve lymph transport and increase circulation.
- Enhance movement and endurance.
- Used for prevention and treatment of sporting injuries.
Our PT team is well-versed in:
- All orthopedic surgeries and special considerations for pre & post-op rehab
- Sports injury rehabilitation, from recreational athletes to professional athletes
- Shockwave therapy
- Class 4 Laser therapy
- Dry needling and acupuncture
- IAMT Certified (Gua sha)
