Manual Therapy & IASTM

Manual therapy is an application of hands-on techniques by skilled clinicians to manipulate your soft tissues, joints, and nerves. Manual therapy is important for multiple body systems and is proven to be effective in decreasing your pain and tissue tension, improving quality of movement, and guiding patients through their exercises.

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a technique we often use in physical therapy. IASTM works like a standard massage, but specialized instruments are used in place of a physical therapist’s hands. These instruments allow more direct treatment of the soft tissues involved with movement. The tissues include:

  • Muscles
  • Fascia, connective tissue that surrounds and separates muscles
  • Ligaments, tissue that connects bones to other bones
  • Tendons, tissue that connects muscles to bones

Class IV Laser Therapy

Class IV deep tissue laser therapy is a non-invasive, painless, and highly effective way to treat a variety of conditions. It uses a high-powered laser to penetrate deep into the tissue and stimulate healing at the cellular level.

Class IV lasers can emit greater photonic energy in a shorter period of time than class 3B lasers without producing an appreciable rise in tissue temperature under normal treatment protocols. This higher power becomes important when treating injuries to deeper tissues such as ligaments, muscles, tendons, and cartilage.

Shockwave Therapy

Proven to be a highly effective treatment, shockwave therapy involves sending high pressure pulses into target areas of the body to break up scar tissue and adhesions, as well as increasing circulation. Shockwave has been shown to accelerate the healing process and aid in pain relief for a multitude of conditions such as sciatica.

GameReady

Cryotherapy

At our physical therapy clinic, we prioritize your rehabilitation and recovery following orthopedic injuries or surgery. We offer Game Ready's range of units and wraps, providing you with a comprehensive injury and post-operative treatment plan that incorporates cold therapy techniques to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation.

Electrical Stimulation

E-stim sends mild electrical pulses through the skin to help stimulate injured muscles or manipulate nerves to reduce pain. There are several E-stim modes that use different types of currents intended to stimulate different nerves in a variety of specific ways, such as interferential, pre-modulated, Russian, and symmetrical or asymmetrical bi-phasic. Don’t let the words confuse you, though. Your physical therapist will decide on the right one to meet your unique needs.

Our clinic frequently utilizes electrical stimulation in order to provide a variety of beneficial healing effects, including:

  • Reduce, eliminate, and/or control pain (both acute and chronic)
  • Increase local circulation
  • Decrease swelling
  • Improve range of motion
  • Reduce muscle spasm
  • Provide biofeedback (aka improve body awareness)
  • Improve motor coordination
  • Provide neuromuscular re-education
  • Prevent or reverse muscle atrophy (especially after prolonged immobilization, such as a limb being cast as a fracture heals)
