Olecranon bursitis is a condition in which the olecranon bursa becomes inflamed, most often due to microtrauma or direct trauma to the affected elbow. Evidence has shown that complete resolution of signs and symptoms can be achieved with non-surgical management.
Evaluation and treatment are mainly based on the clinician’s experience and preference, not all patients respond the same to all treatments. Rest, ice, compression, orthoses are some of the things that are suggested by clinicians when dealing with this condition. In other cases intrabursal injection, aspiration and Bursectomy are other methods used in order to treat olecranon bursitis.
