After going through a knee replacement, supporting muscles and soft tissue can begin to atrophy due to nonuse and swelling. Increased strain can be put on the knee, hip and ankle region from improper movement. Range of motion can be diminished. The healing process can be slowed down due to lack of blood flow to the area. Physical therapy can play a big role in the recovery and outcome of the surgery.
- Physical Therapy may perform:
- Passive range of motion exercises
- Patellar mobilization
- Surgical scar massage
- Progressive resistive exercises
- Other Theraputic Modalities
